Great Black and White Photographers Part 3

1. The photographer I chose was Walker Evans, and as I was looking at his photos I noticed he took profile pictures, of peoples faces up close and of children. A particular picture that caught my eye was a couple at Cony Island and I'm a sucker for cute couple photos which really drew me in.

2. Couple at Cony island-  In this photo I see a cute couple looking of into the water and enjoying their one year anniversary at Cony Island. The lighthouse in the back has amazing designs I have never seen before and it looks unique. There are rides and houses in the back of me with other families enjoying their day. I can smell the woman's perfume blowing off into the breeze. I smell the popcorn people are making and the freshness in the breeze. Of to the distance I also smell that a baby is in the need of getting changed. I can hear the sounds of people in the background talking and laughing, with the sound of children's feet running all over the place. I can faintly hear the man whispering to the woman, "I love you". The woman says back "I love you too". I can taste the salt in the breeze coming from the coast not far away. I turn to the side of me and a small toddler hands me some popcorn with a lot of butter. It has an after taste which seems to taste of plastic but I don't mind. I feel so happy because it's such a beautiful day that has not been wasted. In some ways I also feel a little weird for watching the couple so I try to keep my distance. A sense of relief washes over me when I find out that I'm not the only one, because there is a man taking a picture of them when I turn around.

Saratoga Springs- I see no one on the streets, just me looking off into the row of cars. It looks gloomy and I wonder if that is why no one is walking around. I look up and see the trees, they have lost all their leaves and all that is left are a few bare branches. I can smell people cooking warm soup inside their house to keep warm on this cool rainy day. Down the street I smell that the baker has just taken out a loaf of bread. The bread smells like it has cinnamon and sugar on it. I hear someone around the corner, possibly getting into their car but it just be my imagination. I hear the engine starting and the sound of wheels turning so I realize it wasn't in my head. As they drive by I can hear them whistling and singing a sweet melody. I can taste a rain drop that has fallen on me that had made it's way down from the top of my head to the corner of my mouth. It tastes fresh and just like any glass of water. It doesn't taste dirty but just super pure. Lastly I feel calm and at peace because rain is one of the most beautiful things in the world and soon a rainbow will emerge once the sun comes out. I somewhat feel alone standing in the middle of a side walk with no one to talk to.  Then a sense of it's gone when I see someone starting to open their front door and walk towards me with a smile on their face.

3. I would like to create a blog because it is very simple to do and easy to access.

Mural Project Preview

1.  The theme I would chose is career clusters. I would chose this because Akins has academies that fit the career you want to be in. You have pictures kids wearing scrubs, JROTC or ROTC wearing their uniforms, agg classes, and so on. 
2.  This would be a subject to devote time and effort since high school students need to start thinking about their careers. With the mural they can get ideas about what they want to be when they grow up. 
3.  A phone is more portable and easier to use and handle. You also have to consider that taking pictures with a phone is a privilege, not everyone is mature enough to respect the rules and might text or do other things off task than the project. 
4.  An SLR camera is big and not as easily portable as a phone. However, no everyone has a phone with a camera with it so the SLR camera is a back up plan for kids without a phone with a camera. 
5. We should use SLR cameras for this project because not everyone could have a phone that can take picture. In my case I just have a cheap flip phone with no camera. You have to consider that not everyone has a smart phone with a camera.

Africa Black and White Powerpoint

   I was in love of the way Nick Brandt captured the animals in Africa. They stayed in tune with the rules of photography and they took me in awe. They were breathtaking, especially the African cat pictures.

This is my favorite photo because I am a huge fan of cats, even big African cats. The way the lion is looking of into the distance is so beautiful. Th rule of simplicity is shown in this picture because the lion is the only subject in the picture. It also has a plain background.

Nick Brandt

a. He used a Pentax 6711 with only two fixed lenses.
b. Nick took the photos of the animals in their natural state and surrounding.
c. His hope is that the animals will get noticed and people were start paying more attention to them. He wants the animals to be around longer so they won't go extinct.
d. Brandt said, "You wouldn't take a portrait of a human being from a hundred feet away and expect to capture their spirit; you'd move in close."

Academic Shot Reflexion

1. As the period went on time got a little away from me and then it was B lunch, and that was were all of the classes with the most activities occurred went to lunch. Some of the teachers didn't want us shooting in their classrooms as well.

2. I though more on framing and focusing on my photos because those are my week points when shooting. To do this correctly I took a little more time for shooting a picture and spending time to focus on my subject.

3. I would hurry to get to the classes I want before they go to lunch and make sure my subjects were more clear by only putting them in my shot and no one else.

4. I would try to go to the same classrooms as before because they were doing some interesting things.

5. The easiest rule to achieve would have to be the rule of simplicity. All you need is a subject and a clear background.

6. The hardest rule to capture would be framing or rule of thirds because I never seem to be able to find them in classrooms.

7. I am pretty clear with all of the rules except with the rule of thirds. I could go to a website and search up more information on the rule to get a more clear understanding of it.

Lines

1. I followed the rule well by getting a picture of the lines of the gates. 

2. The subject of the photo are the gates in the barn.

3. For the most part, it is clear I think.

4. I could've made sure that there was more lighting in the picture, it looks a little too dark so it's kind of hard to make out the rule.

Balance

1. I followed the rule well by getting a table where students were equal on both sides.

2. My subject is the classroom basically, specifically the middle table and the students around it.

3. The subject is very clear for people.

4. I think the photo is very clear, I am very satisfied with this photo.

Rule of Thirds 

1. I did an ok job at following the rule.

2. My subject is the boy on top of the bleachers holding the ball.

3. The subject is somewhat clear.

4. I could have made sure that no one else was in the shot so they would only focus on the boy on top of the bleachers.

Simplicity 

 

1. I followed the rule very well in this photo, using a plain background when taking a photo of my subject.

2. The subject is the goat.

3. It is clear to people that my subject is the goat.

4. The goat was moving some when I took this picture so I could've focused the lens more so the goat's ear so it wouldn't be blurry.

Avoiding Mergers

1. I think I followed the rule well because I made sure to capture only half of the girl on the right.

2. My subjects were the two students playing their instruments.

3. It is somewhat clear that they were my subjects.

4. I could've centered them in the shot and gone a little closer to them to make the rule more clear.

Framing 

1. I think I did an ok job at following the rule because you can see the window offered my frame for my subject.

2. My subject was the boy in front of the window.

3. It is very clear that my subject is the boy because he is the only person in the shot and is in the center of the picture.

4. I could have gotten all the frame in the shot. The right side of the window is kind of cropped out.

Academics Shot Preview

The Story

This tells the a story because you see the students volunteering and helping feed the homeless. You can see the students handing out hot dogs and preparing it for them. Either they were doing it for community service, for the fun of it, or to just help others in need, it really tells a great story.

Action and Emotion

The group of students are gathered in a circle holding hands and praying perhaps. Everyone seems emotionally into what they're doing and they all are united in they're group. The power of the picture could really touch some people.

Fills the Frame 

This fills the frame with the most interesting things because there are a huge group of students working with dry ice. You can see the smoke/fog coming out of the table and everyone touching it. It is very interesting to see all the students taking a part in this lab and having a great time.

Favorite Photo

This is my favorite photo because he shoes his love for science, which is one of my favorite subjects. I like how it just focuses on him and the chemicals and blurs out the background. It shows the rule of avoiding mergers, balance and simplicity.

1. I could take photos in the classrooms. The classrooms who are the most interesting. 

2. I would like to visit Ms. Sotos class, Health Science or Principles of Health Science.

3. I will follow the rules of photography and make sure I represent some of them in my photos.
